Project description
The Ugandan startup MOBFIT has developed what it describes like a robust agricultural supplier chain software backed by GSM, which is able to directly link small rural farmers with buyers via SMS and automated vocal calls technology. Launched last year and already used by 300 farmers and more than 1 000 buyers, MOBFIT allows farmers to simply send an SMS with the information on its products with a shortcode. The system then generates an identification number. MOBFIT receives the buyers' offers, identifies the highest prices for given products and then puts those farmers and buyers through. The system allows farmers to negotiate the price before the harvest and be paid once delivered, whereas buyers have the time to chart and get their goods the day of the harvest.
