Project description
Given the lack of viability of land registers (missing ownership titles and addresses from the registers, complexity of the customary law…), Ghana bet on the blockchain with the digital land register profect launched in 2015 by the NGO Bitland. The purpose is to allow citizens, companies and Ghanaian agricultural unions to register their real properties and access a more complete land register, secured by the blockchain, thus more viable (transparent and impossible to falsify). Bitland offers to conduct surveys (along with the Land Commission of Ghana and on the field) to confirm the validity of property titles, register GPS data of the properties in the system and deliver a paper certificate to the owner of the property (benefiting especially to owners that are not sheltered because they do not own any official documentation). This data base could ease the resolution of land dispute thanks to the Bitland certificates, that would serve as a reference.
