Project description
In the face the failure of plastic waste managing policies in Ivory Coast, Yaya Kone, founder of the startup Coliba, proposes a solution: upgrade plastic waste thanks to a web and mobile support. The eponymous digital application was launched in 2017, allowing users to program waste collection with a few clicks. Once collected, those plastic waste will be converted into points, then becoming airtime credits, to exchange against products or foodstuff (money, waste recycling supplies, school kits). As a supplement, users receive advice on environment. The initiative takes place in the sustainable city project framework, initiated by the Ivorian government. On its side, the Coliba team sorts out and recycles collected waste to resell it: revenues yielded cover up to 60% of the structure fonctioning budget. The ultimate objective is to implement this solution everywhere in the country.
