Project description
To foster the use of Internet and digital technologies in the service of communities, citizens and governing instances on the one hand, and contribute to the thrust of digital creativity in Africa on the other hand, Google planned on creating the very first African research centre dedicated to artificial intelligence and its applications, to be implemented in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, during the course of 2018. It will bring the best researchers and engineers in automatic learning together, with the perspective of collaborating with universities and local research centres, as well as governmental policy makers on the potential use of artificial intelligence in Africa. At the end, through the results provided by this research centre, Google wishes for contributing to resolve health, agricultural and educational challenges, that are of a critical importance in Africa. This project is presented like the logical continuity of its actions on the continent, given the fact that it's been present on it since the beginning of the 2010s, especially through its digital formation programm which has already benefited to more than 2 millions of Africans and through its incubator Launchpad Accelerator Africa who enable 100 000 developers and 60 startups to benefit from a coaching and financial support.
