Klab, the Fablab of Kigali

Carried by Aphrodice Mtangana and his partners, Klab (abbreviation for Knowledge Lab) is a coworking space and a Rwandese innovations incubator. The first Fablab of Rwanda, located in Kigali, at the sixt floor of the Innovation Centre, who was rewarded several prizes among which that of TV5Monde of Innovation in 2017, describes itself as an innovation space open 24/7, offering a free access to a working space, free mentoring and an access to the Internet for its members, young entrepreneurs, graduate and students, but also children from 9 to 16 years old who initiate in computing through open formations. Its purpose? To promote and back up ICTs solutions on the one hand, and attract ideas from young Rwandese, while helping them solidifying them on the other hand, leading to the development of a strong community of entrepreneurs able to boost the economic growth of the country. A winning bet that led organisms of importance into supporting them, starting with the Rwandese government, the ICT Chamber of the Private sector federation in Rwana and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Between its creation in 2012 and 2016, more than 50 000 people went through the KLab and 200 companies were born of it, among which 60 have reached the stage of maturity and two developed at the International scale.
