Project description
In order to decrease traffic jam, the city of Nairobi announced, in october 2017, the creation of the Nairobi Intelligent Traffic System which relies on the use of traffic lights, road markings and a more efficient signalling at the 100 of the key traffic intersections of the city, as well as on the establishment of tighter punitive measures for users breaking the law, fines for overspeeding or the non-compliance to traffic lights. This project, launched by the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for the sake of collecting in fine data to optimise the road network of Nairobi, takes part of the National Urban Transport Improvement Project (NUTRIP) funded by the Global Band and the government of Kenya up to 13,7 millions of US dollars. The first measures are to be set during 2019.
