Project description
Founded by Bruce Good and William Mellor, the startup OurHood has developed the eponymous website and mobile app that encourages citizens to interact with people in their neighborhood, providing them with a simple and accessible way to share convenient and useful information about the neighborhood life: crime and safety, merchant recommendations and referrals, lost pets, local services and news... The website was released in 2013 and the iOS and Android mobile applications were launched in 2014. The digital platform that currently covers more than 1 300 neighborhoods in its database allows members to be aware in real time of various incidents that occur in the neighborhood and more particularly, any criminal or suspicious activity by publishing alerts that trigger emails, SMS and push notifications to other registered residents. OurHood intends to meet a key goal: to enable people living in different places, to live safely and to watch over each other, communicating in real time with all their neighbors. Among the benefits also announced are the cohesion of the neighborhood and the improvement of neighborhood life thanks to the tools provided and which can inform, plan events, be put in touch with the artisans and professionals that are needed, report an incident (loss of an animal, loss of objects...), recommend places and visits, sell and buy between individuals...
