Who we are?
The DO4Africa platform is an original initiative from the consulting firm Tactis and the Smart Africa Alliance
Tactis is an independent consulting and engineering group, founded in 1995 by Stephane LELUX, and French leader in digital planning and shared infrastructure projects.
Tactis has developed activities in strategic consulting and operational support. Tactis operates on a wide range of activities :
• broadband and very high-speed telecommunications (fixed and mobile)
• innovative territories (smart urban and rural projects, data management, mobility, energy, sustainable development, …)
• digital development of economies
Tactis helps and advices both private and public actors in Europe and Africa. It is headquartered in Paris with subsidiaries in Kigali and Tunis as well as offices located in several African sub-Saharan cities. 50% of Tactis’s activities are in Africa.
SMART Africa is a bold and innovative commitment from African Heads of State and Government to accelerate sustainable socioeconomic development on the continent, ushering Africa into a knowledge economy through affordable access to Broadband and usage of Information and Communications Technologies.
The Transform Africa Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda on 28th-31st October 2013 culminated in the adoption of the Smart Africa Manifesto document by seven (7) African Heads of States (Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Mali, Gabon, Burkina Faso) in which they committed to provide leadership in accelerating socio-economic development through ICT’s.
The Smart Africa Alliance has since grown to include 24 African countries that represent 600+ million people
Do4Africa organization aims at boosting the development of digital innovations in Africa.
At the origin of the project, Stephane Lelux (President of Tactis) notes that innovative digital African projects do not benefit from sufficient visibility. Yet sharing information is a key factor for the emergence, the development and the spread of innovative projects that can bring solutions throughout the continent, and beyond.
Moreover, open data portals that are crucial to the understanding of every country on the continent, suffer from lack of accessibility and reliability.
The Do4Africa initiative brings solutions via two main components :
A digital platform relying on a sharing strategy (crowdsourcing). The main objective of the platform is to gather a large scope of innovative projects founded by diverse actors (startups, private groups, governments, citizens, etc.) on the whole continent.
An open data access platform that offers access to open data portals that are identified by our teams and partners.
Do4Africa is a non-profit organization that relies on the following principles:
- Open data
- Collaborative approach
- Neutrality
- African governance
Governance
